Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is a trademark of Daimler AG and was created in 1926 from a merger between Daimler and Benz. These companies built cars since 1890 resp. 1885.

The name Mercedes was created by one of the first big customers of Daimler, the Austro-Hungarian businessman Emil Jellinek.

He drove races in Nice in 1899 under the pseudonym Mercedes, to his daughter Mercédès Jellinek. In 1901 he ordered 36 cars (and a few weeks later another 36) under the condition that the car would be called Mercedes.
